TWC Central Arizona Founded in 1999
The Wellness Community of Central Arizona opened its doors to cancer patients and their loved ones in March of 1999. Due to the unique integration of place and program, the physical needs of the Wellness Community (TWC) are an essential part of the community’s services. Central to the TWC mission is a homelike, nurturing environment that enhances the atmosphere of healing and support. The Wellness Community of Central Arizona is such a place.
The place is a vintage historic bungalow built in 1908 on Palm Lane in downtown Phoenix. The house is named in honor of Ina Levine, a woman who embodied both the need for compassion and caring for others and the ability to have strength in the face of cancer. The charming home is the foundation of a nurturing environment away from, and unlike that of the hospital, medical offices and clinics we traditionally associate with treating cancer.
The facility sits on a one-acre site which includes the 2,400 square foot historic home to be used for both program meetings and administrative offices, a 1,600 square foot garage that has been converted into group meeting rooms and conference facility (The Pavilion) and, a separate, restful space used for relaxation and visualization, meeting place or a quiet reading room (The Cottage). The property includes lush mature landscaping; a healing garden (Greta’s Garden, named in honor of Greta Shipman, one of the founders of this Wellness Community), and a circular driveway lined with palm trees.
